In our mission to highlight people doing creative work with food, we often don't have to look far. We sat down and broke bread (or waffle) with past SouthBites Trailer Park participant Ms P and asked what she loves about comfort food, cooking for others and what exactly makes her chicken so electric. Check it out!
Also be sure to check out our programming and special events for SouthBites 2015. We have a ton of cool stuff planned and we'll be highlighting more SouthBites participants in the coming weeks! Stay tuned.

Our Summary Review
The big neon “CHICKEN” sign gives away only part of the menu of this vintage Airstream trailer serving fried chicken and other comfort foods such as truffle mac 'n' cheese, breakfast tacos and waffles. The South Congress location with picnic tables offers ideal people-watching
"A bright red sign outlined in neon lights screams CHICKEN as you approach Ms P’s Electric Cock, a large silver trailer on a quieter part of South Congress Avenue. As you may have guessed from the attention-getting name, Ms P’s is not a place for subtlety."
"The ultimate cure for Southern-style munchies? Fried chicken, of course — and Ms. P's rules the roost. Find her old-time trailer in SoCo, where she'll fry you up a bucket or two while you wait (that can take up to 15 minutes, so don't hesitate to BYOB)."

"We're back with another episode of Fast Foodies, where we dive into the growing community of Austin's Food Trailers, getting to know the cooks, the patrons, and the signature dishes that make these can't-miss Capital City eateries. We sat down with fried chicken queen Ms. P, proprietor of SoCo standout Ms. P's Electric Cock."
"This trailer specializes in fried chicken made with local, free-range birds. Despite the comical name, Ms. P's serves serious food. Dark meat lovers will appreciate the focus on spicy wings and drumsticks fried in peanut oil."
"Every once in a while I splurge for some exceptional southern fried chicken. And we were not disappointed at our new favorite chick’n joint ~ Ms. P’s Electric Cock. That’s right, it’s called Electric Cock and it’s sensational. If you want some serious 'soul' food then head on over to the Electric Cock. Yum!!!"
"Although fried chicken is her specialty, the black eyed peas were what brought us to this popular chicken trailer. For those new to southerly traditions, we here south of the mason dixon dish up black eye peas on New Years day."
"Ms. P's [truffled macaroni and cheese], however, has that rich sharp cheddar flavor with even an underlying hint of worcestershire or something of the sort giving it almost a meaty, hearty quality, with a drizzle of truffle oil rounding it out."
"A pair of TX Culinary Institute alums are helping fulfill a relative's dream of starting a fried chicken joint with this neon orange-sign'd Airstream, serving SoCo antibiotic-free Gonzalez-sourced birds brined in buttermilk, dredged in flour (plus 12 secret spices), deep-fried in peanut oil, and served alongside buttermilk biscuits, pickled veggies, and sides like truffled mac or Cotija-coated Mexican street corn with jalapeno-spiked aioli, called 'Marty.'"
"The chicken is battered perfectly on the outside, making the inside moist and delicious. Their mac n' cheese is topped with truffle aioli, and their black-eyed peas would make any Southern chef proud. Ms P. cares as much about service and customer satisfaction as she does about her food. You can usually find her coming around to your table, making sure your meal is perfect."
"The flavors are enough to transport you to a different time and place, when South Congress was a little sleepier, the salsa spicier. The second taco gives you a taste of new South Austin: a perfectly fried piece of Ms. P’s chicken, two crispy slices of bacon and a handful of Cheddar cheese tucked inside a corn tortilla."

"As I was walking back towards my hotel after having a Moroccan lamb sausage wrap at Cazamance, I noticed the unmistakable smell of fried chicken behind a fence. I peered over the fence and saw a trailer in the backyard of Bar 96 at 96 Rainey Street with a crazy name – Ms P’s Electric Cock."
"Ms P has been perfecting her fried chicken for years and has always wondered why there aren't any REALLY GOOD FRIED CHICKEN places in Austin. Her friends and family have always said "you should open up your own fried chicken joint." Chef Cuz, who is an accomplished Chef, has always dreamed of having his own place. So they are teaming up, rigging a food trailer and are serving the best Fried Chicken in the "ATX"."

Well, that happened late last week when I made a long-overdue journey down South Congress to the food trailer known as Ms. P’s Electric Cock."
The big crowds for First Thursday on South Congress this week discovered a big change, new back-in angle parking. Earlier Thursday, KVUE News heard from a lot of drivers and business owners who dislike the new parking. Thursday night, we found many who do like it.

I have no idea why, but ever since November, I've been craving one thing and one thing only: fried chicken. The craving is so intense that sometimes I'll get a case of the grumps that refuses to go away until the need is satisfied. And, up until I discovered this amazing little gem, the need was rarely fulfilled.
Calling all fried chicken and TV enthusiasts: another Austin institution is in the spotlight as "Food Paradise," a series on the Travel Channel, will be filming at Ms P’s Electric Cock food trailer Feb. 28.
Tucked in a little pocket on South Congress, you’d never know that you were about to have the best fried chicken of your life. On a crisp Friday afternoon, I made my way downtown with my camera, parked (for free!), and strolled on over to the silver bullet with “C-H-I-C-K-E-N” on the top of it.
After reviewing the menu, I was surprised at how difficult it was to make my decision. I had every intention of ordering Fried Chicken and WOW Waffles. But the Vegetarian Chili, SoCo Slaw, Farm Frites, Hen Scratch Slider, and mainly the Truffle Mac and Cheese were calling my name. Alas, I stuck with my guns. Wanting to order everything on the menu, I was flying solo – so I ordered my 2 piece Fried Chicken and WOW Waffles, “A good choice” according to the man who took my order (later learning that he’s Mr. P!).
So, let’s get to it. The food part! The chicken was amazing. Honestly, I’ve never had fried chicken so good. The outside was crispy without being too breaded and the inside was juicy and tender. I don’t know how Ms P does it, but she does it so well! The waffles were also awesome. Surprisingly crispy and light. They weren’t super doughy. They had a really delicious sweetness to them and didn’t even need the syrup. Although the syrup was delicious as well.
The service was friendly. Mr P came out and talked to the guests making sure the order was perfect. It’s pretty obvious that he loves what he does and enjoys that others love it too! Since Ms P’s Electric Cock is BYOB (bring your own beer) he gave me some suggestions for parings next time around. Apparently prosecco hits the spot with their menu. So I’ll be bringing a bottle of that next time around!
Overall, I was blown away. The service was friendly and fast. The food was way better than the price. And the location can’t be beat! I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a fast lunch during the week or wanting a nice, inexpensive place to hang out, enjoy the scenery, and chat with friends!
